Will you help us get Clean Air for Kids
Very few schools, Local Education Authorities and Academy Trusts can afford the up-front costs of installation of air filters. But the Government could, easily. And recover their costs very quickly from supply teacher budget savings.
With political leadership, we could easily transform the lives of schoolchildren, their teachers, and their families by improving the quality of the air they breathe.
Please write to you Member of Parliament to ask them to support our campaign.
Let's Make It Happen
Please write a letter to your Member of Parliament asking that schools add an air filter to each classroom and regularly open windows to reduce the number of coughs, colds, and Covid-19 infections that kids and their teachers catch at school. Doing this would also increase attendance rates and improve academic performance.
And it would reduce the amount of sickness spread into families from schools, and thus reduce the number of sick days lost at work.
At the same time, it will help schools to save money on supply teacher costs. The costs of installation would be recovered very quickly by these savings. It has been estimated that to install air cleaners in every school in England would be a one-off cost of approximately £140 million. Yet schools in England spent £1.4 billion on supply teachers last year alone.
Savings to supply teacher budgets because of less teacher sicknesses caught at school would be made year on year, so for as long as the air filter is being used. And running costs for an air filter once installed, are £6 per pupil per year, so less than the price of a coffee and a cake.
There is absolutely no downside to the Government taking the decision to installing air filters in schools.
